VetMapping does not collect, transmit, sell, or share your personal data. Your farms, notes, photos and settings live on your device and stay there until you choose to export or share them.
What we store on your device
VetMapping stores the following locally on your iPhone or Android phone, in the app's private storage area:
- Farm records you create or import (owner name, serial number, address, coordinates, livestock counts).
- Visit notes and any photos you attach to them.
- GPS-change history (every time a farm pin is moved).
- App settings (theme, accent color, distance unit, map style).
None of this leaves your device unless you explicitly export it (Excel / JSON) or share it (via the system share sheet to email, messaging, cloud storage, etc.). Those destinations are not part of VetMapping — they have their own privacy policies.
Permissions VetMapping requests
- Location — to centre the map on you and measure distance from your position to nearby farms. Location is read only while you are using the app; it is never sent off-device.
- Camera — only when you tap "Take photo" while adding a visit note. The photo is saved to the app's private storage.
- Photo library — only when you tap "Choose from gallery" while adding a note, or when you save an exported report.
- Microphone — declared because the camera plugin links the AVFoundation framework. VetMapping does not record audio.
Network usage
VetMapping is designed to work fully offline. The only outbound connections the app makes are:
- Map tiles — when you pan to a new area while online, the chosen basemap downloads tiles from the public map-tile providers (OpenStreetMap and similar). Once cached, those tiles work without internet.
- Resolving shared map links — when you share a Google Maps short link into VetMapping, the app performs a single HTTP HEAD redirect resolution to find the canonical link with the coordinates. No personal data is sent.
Analytics, advertising, third parties
None. VetMapping contains no analytics SDKs, no crash reporters, no advertising, and no third-party trackers. We do not know how many people use the app, where they are, or what they do with it.
Children's privacy
VetMapping is a professional field tool aimed at veterinarians and livestock-extension staff. It is not directed at children under 13 and we knowingly do not collect any data from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how data is handled — for example, if a future version of VetMapping added an optional cloud-sync feature — this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will change. We will also call the change out in the App Store "What's New" notes for that release.
